SENATOR MARIA CANTWELL

United States Senator Maria Cantwell serves the State of Washington, establishing a reputation for herself as a champion of progressive legislation in issue areas such as minority protection and climate change. As a strong immigration advocate, Senator Cantwell co-sponsored two bills to block former President Donald Trump’s Travel Ban in 2017. In 2021, she reintroduced the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants, better known as the NO BAN Act, in Congress to prevent future Muslim and travel bans through enhancing the Immigration and Nationality Act to forbid discrimination on the basis of religion, and restoring the separation of powers by ensuring any future travel bans are narrowly constructed and follow appropriate consultation with Congress.

On June 2, 2021, the Libyan American Alliance was pleased to host a Community Meet and Greet with the office of Senator Cantwell with the Washington State Libyan community. LAA is grateful for the excellent turnout and the insightful discussion on various issues, including foreign intervention to the migrant and refugee crisis. We look forward to working with Senator Cantwell’s office and hosting similar events in the future.
