VICTIMS’ FAMILIES TO SPEAK OUT ON COURT FINDING HIFTER LIABLE FOR WAR CRIMES

Families of Hifter’s victims to be made available for comment for the first time since filing a lawsuit in 2019
(Washington, D.C.) Please join the Libyan American Alliance this Thursday to hear firsthand from the families of Khalifa Hifter’s victims. This is the first time that the Plaintiffs will be available for comment since they filed a suit against Hifter in 2019. They have offered to share stories about their slain loved ones, explain their reasoning for pursuing legal action against Hifter in the United States, and comment on a U.S. federal judge finding Khalifa Hifter liable for claims of extrajudicial killing and torture of Libyan civilians.
Last Friday, U.S. District Judge Brinkema fully adopted Magistrate Judge John F. Anderson’s June 10, 2022 recommendation that all three plaintiffs’ motions for default judgment be granted in part as to Hifter’s liability for claims pursuant to the Torture Victim Protection Act (“TVPA”).
