Press Release: Libyan American Leaders Call for Investigation into Erik Prince’s Libya Arms Embargo Violations

(Washington DC, 2/10/2021) – The Libyan American Alliance(LAA) is calling on the US Department of Justice to investigate the allegations made by a confidential UN report that implicates Erik Prince, the former head of Blackwater World Wide, in supplying weapons and mercenaries to militia leader Khalifa Hafter who waged a war to overthrow the internationally recognized GNA government in Libya. LAA is also calling on the United Nations to hold Erik Prince and his accomplices accountable and impose sanctions again them.

The New York Times reported that UN investigators delivered a report to the Security Council on Thursday February 9, 2021, that reveals “how Mr. Prince deployed a force of foreign mercenaries, armed with attack aircraft, gunboats and cyber warfare capabilities, to eastern Libya at the height of a major battle in 2019.”

Security Council resolution 1970, adopted in Feb 2011, prohibits the sales and transport of weapons into Libya and mandates sanctions against all violators.

Dr. Esam Omeish said “Once again Erik Prince is implicated by UN investigators in being directly involved in nefarious activities and illegal arms smuggling. This time Libyan blood is on his hands and the hands of his UAE backers who provide him with a safe haven to conduct his evil operations.” “We urge the Justice department and the Obama administration to hold Erik Prince accountable and to put an end to his efforts in destabilizing Libya.”
