Senator Chris Murphy

United States Senator Chris Murphy has acted as a strong voice in the Senate supporting a progressive and forward-thinking foreign policy vision for the United States. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he has been an outspoken proponent of diplomacy, international human rights, and the need for clear-eyed American leadership abroad. In December 2020, Senator Murphy took to the floor of the Senate to speak out against the US-UAE arms sale announced by the Trump administration. Along with being a staunch supporter of the Libya Stabilization Act, Senator Murphy also took the initiative to compose a letter to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, urging the Department of State to hold the Libyan warlord and American citizen, Khalifa Haftar, accountable for his cooperative partnerships with malign Russian actors, such as the Wagner Group, in Libya.

“We need to hold all those that seek to spoil Libya’s democratic transition accountable, and support democratic institutions in Libya with funding and high-level diplomacy for them to succeed. I’m glad to support the Libya Stabilization Act that does just that.”
