LIBYAN AMERICAN YOUTH & VOTER ENGAGEMENT

IT ALL STARTED WHEN…

In October 2019, a survey for Libyan American youth was put together to better understand their needs and interests. We received about 27 responses from various parts of the country across a wide variety of demographics. As expected, findings demonstrated that Libyan American young people felt unsure of where to get accurate information about the situation in Libya. Many expressed a desire to be more involved but were unsure how to do so. Overall, they believed that it is important for them to get involved. Mixers seemed to be the most popular type of programming, but people also expressed interest in political advocacy and opportunities to learn more about Libya and Libyan culture. This survey was designed to be a starting point for further activities engaging Libyan American youth. The survey was followed by a November event, 3aseeda & Chill, which was a mixer for Libyan youth and young professionals. It was decently attended and did introduce people to our work, although the goal of brainstorming wasn’t particularly well-achieved. It did serve as an entry point for many young people into our work and was a good place to start with youth outreach.
