Libyan American Alliance To Announce New Legal Action Against Khalifa Hifter

The Libyan American Alliance (LAA) is pleased to announce that it will be holding a press conference today after filing a new lawsuit against military commander Khalifa Hifter for his alleged role in war crimes committed against Libyan civilians.LAA’s new in-house counsel, attorney Miya Griggs, will be available to discuss the details of the new suit she filed against Hifter in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia during a press conference being held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, September 15th.Hifter has already been named as a Defendant in three separate civil suits in the Eastern District Court of Virginia for his alleged responsibility in the extrajudicial killing and torture of Libyan civilians. Recently, on July 29, 2022, a U.S. District Judge found Hifter liable by default for claims pursuant to the Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991 (“TVPA”) and ordered Hifter to pay damages to the families.LAA is lead consultant on the first suit ever filed against Hifter – a suit brought on behalf of several families who lost their loved ones during the April 2019 Tripoli offensive launched by Hifter’s forces.
