On August 31, 2020, the Libyan American Alliance joined 182 other organizations convened by Refugee Council USA in signing onto a letter addressed to President Trump and Secretary Pompeo expressing strong support for a robust U.S. refugee resettlement program. Over the last five decades of dictatorship and war, tens of thousands of Libyan Americans have built homes in the United States, many of them refugees fleeing persecution. Today, our community is composed of doctors and teachers, businessmen and students, all positive contributors to their communities. Based on our own experiences as Libyan Americans, we know how important it is for the United States to remain a place of refuge in an increasingly unstable world.
